A.J. Carsten Company Ltd., of Powell River, was one of five B.C.
companies to receive a 1998 British Columbia Export Award in
recognition for their accomplishments in export growth and
marketing.
The awards were established in 1983 to recognize B.C. companies
demonstrating excellence in creative marketing and growth in
sales by exporting British Columbia's products and services to
diverse markets. The awards were handed out last week in
Vancouver.
"Winning the award proves that an exporting business can be
successful in even a remote place like Powell River," said
company spokesperson Arlene Carsten.
The Okeover-based firm manufactures furnaces, kilns, ovens and
casting machines for the production of technical ceramics for
corporations such as General Motors, Dupont, and Samsung. With
export sales averaging $1.25 million over the last three years,
A.J. Carsten products are shipped throughout Europe, Asia,
Australia and the United States.
"These five companies are excellent examples of the
opportunities available in B.C.'s diverse economy. They
capitalize on our superb location and skilled work force to
build strong, export-driven businesses that provide jobs for
British Columbians and create new opportunities for innovation
in areas such as the high-tech sector," said Minister of
Employment and Investment Mike Farnworth.
